**About Luma Dream Machine **

Luma Dream Machine was developed in 2024 as an AI creative platform that helped creators turn descriptions and reference images into visual ideas, experiment with motion, and refine their results.

The Dream Machine product experience was expanded with Luma Agents, launched in 2026, where image generation, visual references, and keyframes can be managed through chat and boards, giving creators a place to organize their experiments and develop projects.

**Luma becomes Multi-Modal with Agents**

In 2026, Luma introduced Luma Agents to bring new models, generative video, and image creative capabilities into a broader workflow that seamlessly connects ideation, generation, editing, and refinement. Luma Agents are multi-modal and backed by Ray and Uni, Luma's frontier models.

Dream Machine, the previous Luma generation, is still available to existing users, and today new Luma users start with Luma Agents. Critically, Luma Agents can carry consistent creative direction through multiple assets, to easily move from brief toward finished work at scale.

## What Can You Create With Luma Agents?

Luma brings image, video, and audio capabilities into a shared creative workspace. With Luma Agents you can:

- Develop Ideas and Visual Directions: Start with a brief, a reference image, or an early concept. Explore visual approaches, generate variations, and refine the direction before committing to production.
- Generate Video With Ray: Turn text descriptions or images into video using Luma’s Ray models. Describe the subject, action, mood, and camera movement to guide the result. Explore Luma’s [AI Video Generator](https://lumalabs.ai/create/ai-video-generator)
- Transform Existing Footage: Use video modification tools to explore new environments, characters, lighting, and visual styles while retaining elements of the source footage’s motion and performance.
- Create and Refine Images: Generate concepts and edit images using Luma’s image capabilities, including UNI. Work from references to guide the look, subject, and composition. Use [Luma Layers](https://lumalabs.ai/introducing-layers) to edit efficiently.
- Connect Images, Video, and Audio: Develop creative assets across formats within the same project. Agents help coordinate the tools and tasks needed to move the work forward.
- Repeat Workflows With Luma Skills: Capture a creative process as a reusable Skill. Apply its instructions to new assets and share the workflow with your team. Start creating with [Luma Skills](https://lumalabs.ai/news/luma-skills).

## Dream Machine vs. Luma Ray

The Dream Machine creative platform contributed to the development of Luma Agents, the current Luma experience for developing and producing work across models and tools. Ray is a Luma frontier model built for cinematic video.

Earlier Dream Machine tutorials may refer to Ray 1.4, Ray 2. Those references describe the models and features available at the time. With Ray today, creators can guide a clip with up to 16 keyframes, and use HDR generation and EXR export in supported production workflows. For current model specifications and available features, visit the [Ray model page](https://lumalabs.ai/ray).

## Creative Exploration from the Luma Dream Lab

The curiosity that brought people to Dream Machine in the first place, continues through the Luma Dream Lab.

Luma's Dream Lab, based in Los Angeles, is where Luma experts e[xplore new creative possibilities ](https://lumalabs.ai/dreamlab/featured)with artists, filmmakers, and storytellers from around the world. Together, we experiment with emerging tools, test creative workflows, and discover what people can make when imagination can inform Luma technology.
